Board Members

The Mentor Board of Education:

  • Consists of five citizens, elected by non-partisan ballot, each serving a four-year term.
  • Functions as a policy-making body according to the mandates of state law.
  • Represents the State of Ohio and the citizens of the Mentor Public Schools on all matters and decisions dealing with public education and in some matters concerning services for non-public school students.
  • Determines the goals and priorities of the school district.
  • Authorizes the appointment of the superintendent, treasurer, teachers and other staff members.

Mrs. Jeschelnig has lived in Mentor for 30 years and has established a strong commitment to the Mentor Schools community. She has three sons and two daughters-in-law who reside in Mentor and are all proud Mentor High School graduates. When the time comes, Mrs. Jeschelnig’s three young grandchildren will also become Cardinals in Mentor Schools! Mrs. Jeschelnig served as a teacher in the district for 18 years. She began her career as an art teacher and worked for 14 years as a public librarian before joining the Mentor Schools team. Mrs. Jeschelnig earned her Bachelor’s degree from Ursuline College and her Master’s in Library Science from Kent State University. Mrs. Jeschelnig’s term expires December 31, 2017.

Mrs. Bryner, her husband Jim, and son Derek live in Mentor. Mary has been a Mentor resident for more than 35 years and is a proud Mentor High School graduate. Her daughter Jennifer, her husband and two children also reside in Mentor. Mrs. Bryner is a licensed Property and Casualty Insurance Agent with Progressive Insurance and has 30 years of experience in sales and customer service. She is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Lake County, a past member of the National Association of Insurance Women, Cleveland Insurance Women and Lake-Geauga Insurance Women where she served as President from 1999-2000. Mary was named Insurance Woman of the Year in 2000. She has been an active PTA member for more than 20 years serving as both Vice President and President of Reynolds Elementary and Ridge Junior High PTAs. Mary is also very involved in several other school organizations including Cardinal Cage Club and Cardinal Parents Club. Her term expires December 31, 2019.

Ms. Miller lives in Mentor and has been a part of the Mentor community since 1979 when she began teaching for Mentor Schools. Ms. Miller spent time in the classroom teaching business and math at Mentor High, Shore and Ridge for nearly 20 years before becoming an administrator in the roles of assistant principal and unit principal for the last 13 years of her career in Mentor Schools. Ms. Miller earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Education from Grove City College and her Master’s in Math Curriculum and Instruction along with her administrative license from Ashland University. She is currently working as an Academic Coach for Madison Schools. Ms. Miller has two grown children, a daughter and a son. Her term expires December 31, 2017.

Mr. Shaw, his wife Denise, and their four children live in Mentor. Bill is the Fire Chief for the Solon Fire Department. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University, an Associate of Arts Degree in Fire Science Technology from Lakeland Community College, and has completed the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy in Maryland. He is a member of numerous organizations within his occupation and has served on the State of Ohio Financial Planning and Supervision Commission for Mentor Exempted Village Schools, the Executive Board for the Solon 100 Club and as a parent volunteer at Dale R. Rice Elementary School. His term expires December 31, 2017.

Mr. Tuttle and his wife Mary live in Mentor. Their two children, Matthew and Sarah, both graduated from Mentor High School. Tom is the Chief Financial Officer for Lake Geauga Recovery Centers, Inc. in Mentor and Chardon. He is also a licensed REALTOR© with KELLER WILLIAMS Greater Cleveland Northeast. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Ohio University, majoring in Accounting, Economics and Mathematics. He owned and operated two small businesses in Mentor and Wickliffe between 1986 and 2002. He sponsored and managed a girls softball team in the Mentor Softball Association for 10 years. Mr. Tuttle’s term expires December 31, 2019.
