Graded course objectives include %70 Summative Assessments: projects, presentations and tests and %30 Formative Assessments: quizzes, worksheets and progress checks. These are all activities based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards and/or stated course objectives. In Intro to Digital Photography the vast majority of a student’s final grade will be based on summative assessments that directly measure the content standards and course objectives.



Intro to Digital Photography

Course Overview:

· Learn the basics of the camera and editing program. (The digital darkroom.)

· Understand the basic concepts of a well formed composition.

· Utilize and work with lighting.

· Create working compositions through one’s own images. (Digital projects.)

· Understand how to mat a finished work of art.

· Print finished compositions onto a variety of photographic papers from various printers.

· Utilize different forms of technology in regards to the digital image. (Memory card readers, USB sticks, Memory cards, USB cords, SMARTboard, Adobe Photoshop, SynchronEyes, and others.)

· Form a basic understanding for critiquing one’s own work and the work of others in relation to digital photography. (ODIP guide, class critiques, individual critiques, self-assessments and others.)

Course Content:

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible manner that reflects sound ethics, honor, and good citizenship. Students should expect various projects, written assignments, work sheets, project critiques and quizzes throughout the semester. There will be a final exam at the end of this course. Due to the unpredictable “time element” in completing studio projects, the due dates for projects will vary. Every effort will be made to accomplish our goals and objectives in a timely and efficient manner as to allow the students the optimum opportunity to excel in their work.



Course Description:

This is an introduction to photography that emphasizes basic camera techniques. In this course students will explore digital photography and related technologies for the production of fine art. Students will develop skills necessary to create their own unique body of work using digital photographic techniques. The production and analysis of expressive and thoughtful art work is the main objective of this course. Students will be introduced to the basic technology necessary for the production of their art work, as well as learning about the visual arts, how to look at and critique photography, photographic vocabulary, using tools such as framing, composition, "rule of thirds", light, texture, pattern, lines, symmetry, depth of field, distance, perspective, culture, space, balance, color and black and white digital photography, and be introduced to many works by well known photographers. Students will be expected to demonstrate an ability to use the tools competently in the production of their art work, however, the production and analysis of expressive and thoughtful art work is the main objective of this course.
