Hopkins and Rice students visit assisted living communities
December 10, 2012 – Students from both Rice Elementary and Hopkins Elementary schools visited nearby assisted living communities Monday morning to spend time with senior citizens while working on special projects together.
Fifth grade student ambassadors from Hopkins went to Parker Place with all the supplies necessary to make cozy fleece blankets. The students decided that would be a perfect project during the holiday season because they could donate the blankets to children in need. Together, the residents and students finished several blankets they will now give to Project Linus.
At Rice, it was fourth grade students who walked from school to Salida Woods for art class to spread the joy of the season by creating wreaths for residents to hang on their doors. The wreaths turned out beautifully! The students and residents enjoyed chatting with their new friends.
