Staff vs Student Basketball Game

As you may be aware, we are doing a staff vs students basketball game on March 27th. Students and staff are encouraged to donate $1 to attend the game and support Leadership Lake County. All the proceeds will go towards S.S. Kids which provides school supplies to an average of 800 families a year. Donations can be given to your Advisory teacher.  


Feed Lake County Can Collection

Bring in a canned good in the morning in the cafeteria from 8:10-8:30. Collections will take place Tuesday, March 20 - Monday, March 26.  All cans will be donated to Feed Lake County. The advisory that brings in the most cans will win a donut breakfast!

NJHS Applications

NJHS applications will be available beginning Monday, April 9th for any interested current 6th or 7th graders.  They will be available in the main office or from Mrs. Dwyer or Mrs. McKenrick.  Applications are due by 3:40 on Friday, April 20th. They may be turned in to the main office or Mrs. Dwyer or Mrs. McKenrick anytime prior to the due date, as well.  Induction into Ridge’s NJHS will automatically secure your position into NJHS for Shore or Memorial next year. Any current 7th graders who wish to be in NJHS next year must reapply.

8th Grade Make a Difference Day

In conjunction with our “One Grade One Book” program for our 8th graders, Ridge will be participating in “Make a Difference Day”.  On March 27th, our 8th grade students will travel to various locations in Lake County to give back, volunteer, and make a difference in our community.  Students will have a meeting on Tuesday, March 13th during Advisory in the cafeteria for further details. Students will be given permission slips at the meeting which are due to the main office by: Friday, March 23rd. All students will be asked to pack a lunch for the field trip.


In support of the local organizations, our 8th grade students will be be asked to collect several items that will be used: Donations can be dropped off in the main office or in Advisory rooms by Monday, March 26th.

Wildwood Cultural Center & Park/Garfield Park

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR EARTH DAY EVENT: We need colorful t-shirts, yarn skeins or scraps of any size, old wool clothing, clothing buttons, beads, old C.D.’s & DVD’s, marbles, blue jeans, Mens
& Womens woven cotton or cotton poly blend dress shirts and Hula hoops of any size.

Latex gloves (for cleaning shelter);

=Any non-perishable healthy snacks for lunches – fruit cups, nutri-grain bars, etc.

7th Grade Trip to Cedar Point

Date: This year's 7th grade trip to Cedar Point is on Friday, May 18th. Dress for the weather; students will go, rain or shine!

Permission Slips: Permission slips should be returned to the main office. Permission slips can be found in the main office or on the Ridge website.

Food: Food is NOT covered in the cost.  Students will be responsible for their own food.


Cost: The cost is $57 ($39 for the ticket - season passes are accepted and $18 for transportation).  Fees have been assigned in Infinite Campus to all 7th-grade students. A limited number of economic hardship scholarships are available; contact Mrs. Blackburn for more information.  (Parents, if your child has a season pass or if you decide your child will not participate, please send a note/email to Mrs. Blackburn and your fee will be removed/adjusted.)

Deadline:   The deadline for payment and permission slip is March 27th -- NO EXCEPTIONS!  Payments can be made online or in the main office.

Study Tables

Do you need extra time to work on ALEKS? Would you like help with your Thought Question for Achieve? Study Tables is a great place to get caught up on classwork, or get help with assignments! Come to the media center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8-8:35 AM. See Miss Elliott if you have any questions!


Ridge Planners:

Ridge planners available for sale in the main office.  The planners are a great way to stay organized and plan for upcoming assignments and assessments.  Planners can be purchased for $3.50



The second annual 8th Grade Orientation Tour to the High School is scheduled for Monday, March 26. Our 8th Grade students should download the app Expeditions prior to their visit to MHS.   



AIR Testing Dates

Our Ridge students will be taking the state assessments on the following dates.   Please make every attempt for your student to be present during the testing dates, thank you.  

April 18, 2018….ELA tests Grades 6-8

April 25, 2018...Math and Algebra Grades 6-8

April 27, 2018… Science Grade 8





On Thursday, April 12th from 7-8pm, Ridge will be hosting a Washington DC Parent meeting in the cafeteria.


The Choose Kind t-shirts are in the main office for $10.  We have sizes S, M, L, and XL. Staff and students are encouraged to wear their Choose Kind shirts on Tuesday, March 27th.



Mentor High Sparkle Cheerleading for HIgh School

If you are currently in 8th grade you could tryout to be a Mentor Sparkle Peer Leader! The Sparkle Cheerleading team is an inclusive team comprised of students with and without disabilities.  We are looking for male and female students to join the team as peer leaders and mentor students with disabilities. The tryout information and application is in the office. There will be a mandatory meeting for all interested parents and students on April 12 from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Digital Lab C at Mentor High School.  The application must be completed and brought to the meeting.

Middle School Football

If you missed the informational meeting last week, please see Mr. McGrath as soon as possible to get all of the important summer dates. Football season is right around the corner!


Memorial Cheerleading Tryouts for 2018-2019 (7th and 8th graders 2018-2019)

Are you going to Memorial Middle School next year?  Are you interested in being a Memorial Middle School Cheerleader for the 2018/2019 school year? There will be a mandatory parent/athlete meeting for all interested on April 12th at 5:30PM at MMS. We will go over expectations and answer any questions.

Cheer Tryout Dates:

Mandatory Clinics will be held May 14th, 15th and 16th from 4:00PM-6:00PM

Cheer Tryouts will be held on May 17th 4:00PM-7PM

Shore Cheerleading Tryouts for 2018-2019 (7th and 8th graders 2018-2019)

Attention: 6th and 7th grade girls interested in trying out for Shore cheerleading for the 2018-2019 school year!


Cheer tryout clinics will be held in Shore’s large gym


  • Monday, April 16th   6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, April 18th   6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

  • Monday, April 23rd     6:00 – 8:00 p.m.


During clinics, you will be taught the cheer, dance, and jumps required for Shore’s cheerleading tryouts.  


Make sure you dress in school appropriate work-out clothing and be prepared to work hard.  (shorts & tennis shoes)


Tryouts will be on April 26th, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Shore’s small gym.

Students will have a chance to warm up and tryouts will begin starting with the 6th graders around 4:30.  You can have your transportation pick you up after you have finished with your tryouts.

High School Cheerleading

Anyone interested in trying out for the 2018/19 MHS cheerleading squad, there is a Mandatory parent/student meeting March 7th. The meeting will be at the Paradigm starting at 7:00 PM. Parents and students must attend the meeting. If you and your parent can’t attend you must email the Coaches.


Coaches' Clinic on March 14th at 5:30- 7:30 in the Auxiliary gym. Cost is $10. You will learn what to know for tryouts and ways to improve your skills.


Tryouts will start with Clinics on March 19-21 4:30-6:30, Interviews on either March 22 or 23 and tryouts on  Sunday, March 25.

Jr. Model U.N.

Jr. Model U.N. ? Do you like to debate with others? ? Do you want to save the world? ? Are you interested in global diplomacy? If so, Model United Nations? is the club for you! Serving as a close model of the real U.N., we work to solve issues that are actively plaguing nations around the globe. Meetings on THURSDAYS @3:40-5:00? in ROOM 231?. Our first meeting is FEBRUARY 8TH?!? No initial commitment is necessary. Come on out and see what Model U. N. is all about! Remember MUN is FUN!


Just Run

Just Run will be starting next week on March 20th! Please make sure that you have filled out the registration online prior to that date. Students from Ridge will be transported over to Shore for practice. Please come to the locker room and change before getting on the bus. Take all your belongings with you. The bus will be leaving at 3:50. See Ms. Deas with questions.

Product codes can be found printed on the inside of most bottle caps and also on the cartons of multi-pack beverages.  Ridge will receive a donation from each Coca-Cola product based on the code values shown in the graphic below.
