Congressman Dave Joyce with Carolina Kane, Congressional Art Competition winner for OH-14.

June 30, 2014 – U.S. Congressman Dave Joyce (OH-14) welcomed Mentor High School's Carolina Kane, the winner of the Congressional Art Competition in Ohio's 14th District, and her family to Washington, D.C., this week for a reception honoring all art competition winners from across the country. Carolina's family includes another member of the Mentor Schools family, her mom, Mrs. Kane, who teachers art at Mentor High School.

After meeting with them and taking them through the U.S. Capitol, as well as onto the Speaker’s balcony overlooking the city, Joyce stated:
“It was great to welcome Carolina and her family to DC on Thursday. We had many strong entries in the art competition this year, but Carolina’s artwork certainly stood out. She is a talented young woman, and I look forward to showing off her work to constituents and colleagues.”

Carolina, who just completed her junior year at Mentor High School, won the competition in Ohio's 14th District with her piece titled “Through the Green Glass”. Her artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Click here to read about the other Mentor High School students who placed in the art competition!
