Mentor Board of Education extends superintendent’s contract
March 12, 2014: The Mentor Board of Education voted unanimously (5-0) at last night’s meeting to extend the Mentor Public Schools Superintendent contract an additional three years. Mr. Matthew Miller is now under contract with Mentor Public Schools through July 31, 2018. He joined the district on July 1, 2012 after being selected from a nationwide pool of candidates.
“We are very pleased with the great work Mr. Miller has accomplished as Superintendent of Mentor Public Schools thus far,” said Board of Education President Mary Bryner. “He has exceeded our expectations beyond what was presented during the superintendent selection process, and we believe it is important to keep Mr. Miller’s enthusiasm and passion for education here in our community long-term.”
Along with continuing the strong tradition of educational excellence in Mentor Schools, Mr. Miller has begun to incorporate blended learning to the district. Blended learning uses technology and best instructional practices to engage students in a more meaningful educational setting. Mr. Miller has led his administrative team and faculty members in the use of instructional classroom technology through data-driven blended learning programs to ensure we recognize our students’ evolving learning styles.
Already, Mentor Schools’ blended learning strategies have become award-winning in the State of Ohio, and Mr. Miller has been selected as Chairman of the newly formed Ohio Blended Learning Network. The knowledge and partnerships gained through the network will benefit children in Mentor as the blended learning model of instruction continues to become implemented throughout the district.
“Successfully leading this shift in instruction is not an easy or overnight process, but it is an exciting one. Great ideas and hard work are pouring from our students, and it is quite impressive to see what they’re capable of when technology is provided as a tool,” added Board Vice President Thomas Tuttle. “We appreciate Mr. Miller’s leadership of the district and are pleased he is making a commitment to stay in Mentor.”
This is Mr. Miller’s ninth year serving as a superintendent in Ohio, having previously spent seven years as the head of Celina City Schools before moving to Mentor. He earned his Master of Education and Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Miller was selected for and completed the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Leadership Institute for Superintendents.
Mr. Miller is committed to build upon the district’s tradition of excellence in his role of Superintendent and looks forward to the opportunities the future holds for the district and its students. As residents of Mentor, Mr. Miller, his wife, and two Mentor Schools students are enjoying all that the Mentor Schools and Mentor area offer.
“Our experience in Mentor Schools and the Mentor Community has been everything my family hoped for and more,” said Superintendent Matthew Miller. “Professionally, having the support of a community that values education affords me the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of students each and every day. I am excited and honored for the opportunity entrusted to me by the Mentor Board of Education to lead the district for the next four years.”
