Dear parents and guardians,
As you know, our school district has used nine calamity days so far this school year. By law, the Ohio Department of Education allows a school district five calamity days and three blizzard bag days before requiring makeup days. After Friday’s cancellation, and under current Ohio law, we now need to make up one day. Presidents’ Day is an option for a makeup day on our official school district calendar; however, due to the short time frame before February 17 and probable legislation to extend Ohio’s school district calamity days, we will tentatively schedule Mentor Public Schools’ one makeup day for Monday, June 2, 2014. We do anticipate that the legislators will come through with calamity day relief and in the end, June 2 will not be necessary either. We will update you soon as to the outcome of the new legislation.
