Summer Camp Opportunities for Students

Hello. Mentor Schools is glad to offer two educational technology camps this summer. Details for both camps are below.

Registration will open April 15th at 9:00 AM. Both camps have a limited number of spaces available. Families will be notified via e-mail by April 30th if their child is enrolled or on the waiting list.

Both camps cost $175.00 each and families will be billed via Infinite Campus.

3-D Design Camp Description

Who? This camp is designed for students who will be entering the 7th or 8th grade and is open only to students who are enrolled in Mentor Public Schools. The camp will have a maximum of 20 students.

When? August 3rd through August 7th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Where? Ridge Middle School

What? Students participating in this session will experience the use of modern computer-controlled production tools including a 3-D printer, laser engraver and vinyl cutter. Participants will develop basic skills with various 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems to develop a small take-home project utilizing each of the machines. Students will experience the satisfaction of creating and producing a product from start to finish. The development of problem solving skills will be a goal of this camp. The elements of the design process will be explored with each project and activity during the camp sessions.

iMove and Lego Robotics Camp Description

Who? This camp is designed for students who will be entering the 5th or 6th grade and is open only to students who are enrolled in Mentor Public Schools. The camp will have a maximum of 40 students.

When? August 3rd through August 7th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Where? Mentor High School - The Hub

What? This camp experience is meant to address 21st century learning skills. Your child will enhance their critical and creative thinking skills and develop collaborative skills while working in teams. Specifically, all students will create and publish an iMovie, using video editing, music integration, title slides, and effective transitions. Additionally, students will build and program a robot using Lego Mindstorms and the Lego software on the iPad to command movements. The camp offers extension and differentiated activities for students who attended last year’s camp.
