Mentor Public Schools Earns 8th Consecutive Perfect Audit
January 26, 2018: Mentor Public Schools received its eighth consecutive Perfect Audit report from the Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office for fiscal year 2017.
Mr. Yost traveled to Mentor to present Chief Financial Officer Daniel L. Wilson the Auditor of State Award with Distinction in-person on January 16.
“The fact of the matter is, only about five percent of the entities that we audit in Ohio earn the Auditor of State Award with Distinction,” Yost said. “So, to put it in education-speak, Mentor Schools is performing at the 95th percentile when it comes to your financial bookkeeping.”
The auditing process included analyzing a large sample of the more than 41,000 checks Mentor Schools issues a year to both vendors and employees.
The Perfect Audit means the financial audit did not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, or any questioned costs.
“Our Board of Education, Superintendent, and administration are committed to serving as good stewards of tax-payer dollars,” stated Mentor Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Daniel L. Wilson. “This Perfect Audit report is evidence to the community that there is honest, competent and accurate fiscal management of the community’s money being used to provide a high quality education for the students of our community.”
The Auditor’s Office completed and filed its report for Mentor Schools on December 27, 2017. The audit report can be found under the Chief Financial Officer's section of the website or by clicking here.
