It is time to begin thinking about Kindergarten Registration for children who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2018.
Mentor Schools has decided to centralize the Kindergarten Registration process this year by having all registrations go through our Student Services Department at the Administration Building (6451 Center Street) rather than at the individual school buildings.
Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-2019 school year will begin on Monday, February 12, 2018 during our regular office hours (8 am - 4 pm), and we will also host extended hours on specific dates from 4-6 pm (more to come).
Who can register?
Registering a Kindergartener in Mentor Public Schools must be done by a custodial parent who lives within the district boundaries. A Kindergartener cannot be registered by a parent or other relative who does not have legal custody of the child.
Procedure for New Mentor Families registering a kindergarten student for the first time (who do not already have a student enrolled) can click on the Online Registration link here.
Procedure for Existing Mentor Families registering a kindergarten student should log onto the Parent Portal and click on the Add New Student box in the lower left corner. Then, Begin Registration.

A portion of Kindergarten Registration should be completed online prior to the in-person visit to the Administration Building. Assistance to those families unable to use online registration will be offered at the Student Services office, located within the Administration Building.
Here is what you’ll need to bring with you for the in-person portion of Kindergarten Registration:

2. Original or official birth certificate (written in English)
3. Proof of residency (see below)
4. Custody papers (if applicable)
5. Driver’s license or photo ID as parental proof of identity
6. Immunization papers (DOWNLOAD)
7. Proof of physical examination completed within the past year (kindergarten only) (DOWNLOAD)
8. Current IEP and ETR / MFE (if applicable)
Proof of Residency
A copy of a current electric or gas bill showing name and address or a copy of a signed purchase or rental agreement may be used to enroll your kindergarten child. We are unable to accept a driver’s license, water bill, sewer bill, telephone/cell bill, or cable bill.
If parents are living with another family within the Mentor School District, they must provide a residency affidavit. The homeowner fills out the top portion and the parent/guardian fills out the center section. The form must be notarized. Both parties will sign the form in the presence of the notary. Proof of residency, as listed above (i.e. current electric or gas bill etc.) is also needed from the homeowner.
The centralized registration location is necessary this year due to the significant changes to our district’s attendance areas and building closures. This will allow us to navigate through the new boundary lines ensuring that everyone is slated for the correct school. Each school will also hold a Meet & Greet event this spring for parents and children to visit their schools. An invitation will come to you directly from your child(ren)’s school for that event.
